HOW USING MUSIC IN VIDEO ADS CAN BENEFIT YOUR BUSINESS

Written by Mac N' Cheese Media

“Bada ba ba ba - I’m lovin’ it”

Did that line make you crave a Big Mac with large fries by chance? It’s probably because McDonald's catchy tagline has been stuck in your dang head for as long as you can remember. What about, “Liberty, Liberty, Liberty… Liberty”? You’re probably able to recite that melody from memory, even though it is literally just 4 words in a row. But why exactly do these songs get lodged in our cranium and cause us to recall brands almost instantaneously, even if we don’t use their products or services?

The Science Behind the Power of Music in Videos
Music in advertising has the power to give viewers the ability to not only recall the messages from ads faster and easier, but it also creates a positive attitude towards the brand as well! Talk about killing two birds with stone (not that we condone the killing of birds). According to the Association for Consumer Research,

“Music is used often in advertising to enrich the key message and may be the single most stimulating component in a commercial. It is perceived as a potential peripheral cue used to positively arouse the consumer’s emotional state. The notion of central and peripheral processing suggests that peripheral cues such as music can lead to a positive attitude about the advertisement and then transfer that positive attitude to the brand.” - Source

This research goes further to say that music can also pervasively stimulate the emotions of viewers and persuade them to take action - much more so than a normal advertisement that doesn’t incorporate music.

In summary, you can use music in your videos in very tactful ways that can not only enhance the way your consumer feels towards your brand but also make them remember you and feel more connected to you. That should be “music” to your ears!

How does Mac N Cheese Media incorporate music into their videos?

At Mac N’ Cheese Media we specialize in creating musical marketing videos to help our clients achieve their goals, whether that be increased sales, brand recognition, and more. Here’s an example of how we helped US Community Credit Union spread awareness of their brand and educate people on their goods and services.

USCCU reached out to us after seeing our viral “Welcome To Nashville” video and wanted us to create a music video about their brand that would resonate with their existing customers and attract new customers as well.

We spent a lot of time crafting the lyrics and music to be as catchy and upbeat as possible so that when the viewer watched and listened to the commercial, not only did the song get stuck in their head which increased their recall, but it also made them feel emotionally drawn to USCCU’s brand and the essence of who they are. All that from a song…

Here is another example of how we utilized a custom music video in a short 1-minute digital ad to get some serious engagement and foot traffic to a local hot dog restaurant. Daddy’s Dogs was looking for a creative and fun way to promote their business and build brand awareness.

Ready to start making music videos for your business, but don't know how or where to start? Here are a few tips to get you started...

  • Decide on a genre of music - You need to pick a vibe that best fits your brand. Are you a hardcore rock climbing company that likes to rock n’ roll (pun intended), or a cool pizza company that grooves to hip hop? It’s important for your music video to match the vibe of your target audience.
  • Decide on the length of your song - Musical ads can be short-form or long-form. You don’t have to make a typical 3-minute song. You can aim for something between 30 sec -1:00 min in length if you have a simple message to share. You can even get away with something as short as 15 seconds.
  • Find your songwriter - If somebody at your company is a musician, utilize them to help write a song, or search for local talent to get you started (or hire us!!)
  • Make a list of the top problems that you solve for your client, how you solve that problem, and the value propositions that set your brand apart.
  • Write your lyrics - We suggest you use a very simple format to start which starts with an attention-grabbing intro (first 3-5 seconds), then introduce the problem your client has, how you solve it with your value propositions, and a call to action.
  • Get feedback - Practice makes perfect, so just start writing and refine your craft. You may not be writing chart-topping hits early on, but get constructive feedback from as many people as you can until your song is solidified as a hit!
  • Shoot your music video - Shoot a video yourself or hire a video production team (or hire us!) to shoot an engaging music video to go with your song and then you're ready to share it with the world!

We’ll go into more detail in the future about how to create music videos and the best formats and platforms to utilize that content, but you can always get started right now!
